EVENT ALERT: Game of Life Charity Games

The Game of Life Foundation will host its “Game of Life Charity Games”at the UWI Mona Bowl on January 6, 2017.

The event will feature local and international football players from DaCosta Cup, Manning Cup, Red Stripe Premier League, USL and MLS. This is a double header football tournament: the junior game will kick off at 3:30 PM while the senior game is scheduled to kick off at 5:30 PM.

Gates open at  2 PM.

Proceeds from Game of Life Charity Games will fund a football programme for young boys and girls .

 

EVENT REVIEW: Santa Claus Visits the Ghetto- Canterbury, Montego Bay

Santa Claus delivered gifts to children living in the troubled Montego Bay community of Canterbury a few days shy of Christmas Day.

Sandals Foundation’s Inspire Joy with a Toy treat hosted over 200 children in the community’s main quadrangle.  Led by Public Relations Specialist at Sandals Royal, Ophir Gayle,  the Sandals Foundation Montego Bay team put hands and hearts together with members of the Canterbury Foundation for Positive Social Development CDC and the Peace Management Initiative Western Division to fete the children in an early afternoon treat.

Sandals Foundation Spreads the Christmas Love

Sandals Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Sandals Resorts, brings joy to children living in Montego Bay’s vulnerable communities with its Christmas treats.

This division of the Sandals Resort has made it a duty to not only visit schools but also infirmaries and community centres inclusive of the Open Heart Charitable Mission Centre, Hope Hospice and the Flankers senior citizens thereby reaching over 300 persons thus far.

Earlier in the month (December 12) the foundation in partnership with Hasbro Inc. brought cheer to the Bethiphil Basic School  where over 50 students were treated to cake and ice-cream and gifted with toys and back to school items for the upcoming school year.

The Sandals Foundation launched its “Inspire joy with a toy” initiative on December 7 from which 10,000 children across the Caribbean region have benefited. The mission will continue nigh the ending of the month in the communities of Canterbury, Flankers and Whitehouse in Montego Bay.

Own Your Future- Young Jamaican Entrepreneurs Conference

The Jamaica Chamber of Commerce (JCC) proudly presents, Young Entrepreneur: Own Your Future – a conference and networking event, which is set to take place at the Courtleigh Auditorium (8 St. Lucia Ave, Kingston) on January 21, 2017 at 9:30 AM.

The featured guest is Thione Niang – a social entrepreneur, political strategist, youth advocate, author, founder of the Give1Project, co-owner of Akon Lighting Africa and an advisor to Barack Obama. Thione’s personal journey is a testament to the power of dreaming big. Raised in a family of 28 in Senegal, West Africa, he immigrated to the United States at the age of 21, with only $20 in his name, no family, and very limited English. He worked in restaurants, cleaning tables, while saving to eventually earn a college degree. This event is intended to be epic, as this will be his first time talking to a crowd in Jamaica.

Other guest speakers include the Honourable Floyd Green (Minister of State in the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information), Valrie Grant (Founder of GeoTechVision and the Commonweath Woman Entrepreneur of the Year) and Nicole Campbell (Founder of AIMS Educational Services).

Young Entrepreneur: Own Your Future will serve to empower entrepreneurs and business people with motivational discussions that will stimulate them towards building a successful future. The objective is to unlock the potential of young entrepreneurs by addressing the challenges they face, and by motivating them to play an integral role in their communities. In addition, the event aims to contribute to Vision 2030 by supporting entrepreneurship and innovation in Jamaica, and help contribute to nation building and an attitudinal change in Jamaican entrepreneurs.
